NIFA Flight Teams

Dear Flight Teams:

Congratulations on your invitation to the 1999 NIFA SAFECON hosted this year by Kansas State University. Enclosed please find a copy of the American Airlines Safety Award guidelines. Please distribute this guideline to the Flight Team in preparation for this year's national competition. Each year as in the past 63 years, American Airlines has sponsored the coveted Safety Award. We first sponsored the award with the organization of NIFC and carried through with this tradition to the present day NIFA.

We will have a Safety Team comprised strictly of American Airline Pilots who will conduct interviews through out the week, and who will observe each team and their conduct of safety during actual competition. Our team of representatives boast a rich history of NIFA; each pilot having been a former member of a competitive NIFA flight team.
We look forward to meeting each person on your team and may Safety ever prevail.

Sincerely,

Kelli Hughes
American Airlines Safety Award Representative

THE AMERICAN AIRLINES
SAFETY AWARD

The American Airlines Safety Award is presented annually to the College or University, which has an outstanding safety record and demonstrates the most innovative approach to further aviation safety.

American Airlines pilots meet with team safety representatives from each school attending SAFECON, to determine the best overall approach to aviation safety. Documentation should be in the form of a safety album and other flight safety related items accumulated by the flight team during the current academic year. Items from previous years and teams should be excluded. In addition, an American Airlines pilot representative will observe each team during the competition week as to their adherence to Safety.

The American Airlines Safety Team is most interested in the endeavors of the Flight Team members to promote aviation safety, rather than the operating procedures set forth by the schools. We realize that in the world of Intercollegiate Aviation, safety is exemplified within all school programs.
