Tips on Test using the E6B
1. Any time you have conversions you will do the convert first. If the
majority of the question is in knots and you have one variable in mph then
convert it to knots. If the question is all in mph (or a variety of units
of measure) and the answers are all in knots then convert to knots. You
will find that conversions are used in many of the questions to take up
time and serve to confuse. This only happens on a test OR in a foreign
country.
2. Any time you are working with a problem that gives you (for example) a
groundspeed then think of your formula for coming up with groundspeed.
Write the basic formula down and then look to see if any of those variables
are included in the question. If you find one of those variables (such as
tailwind) in the question, it serves as a distractors to those who don't
know their basic formulas and it takes up precious time. OK going a step
further and complicating things...
3. Check to see how many variables are in your question that require
formulas and write all the formulas down for that question. Go through the
question and cross out any distractor (already in your formulas) to
actually come up with the basic question at hand. This technique is used
to take up precious time and tests your knowledge of the formula.
