Operation of the Invention
To stop the hiccups, the dietary supplement should be swallowed in the following amounts: For children two years of age or older .085 fl.oz.(2.5 mL) to .17 fl.oz.(5 mL). For adults .17 fl.oz.(5 mL) to .34 fl.oz.(10 mL). In order to maximize the benefits of the dietary supplement, one should breathe slowly for a few seconds after swallowing the composition. While I believe the dietary supplement of the present invention stops the hiccups by

overstimulating the autonomic nervous system, I don't wish to be bound by this.
In order to verify the effectiveness of the dietary supplement of the present invention in stopping hiccups, I performed tests on men and women in different age and ethnic groups. I performed these tests before I retired from Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology. I found out that this dietary supplement would stop the hiccups within seconds in 70% to 80% of the people tested. Two different physicians conducted tests of their own and achieved the same results. In order to verify the legality of the dietary supplement of the present invention, I had to demonstrate both safety and efficacy to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The following paragraph is from a letter that I received from the FDA.
Dallas District Office of the FDA, in consultation with the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), have concluded that if your product, with its current hiccups claims, were marketed as a dietary supplement, consistent with the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), the product could be legally marketed. Your product labeling and its accompanying literature should prominently display the disclaimer specified in section 6(C) of the DSHEA.
Conclusion, Ramifications and Scope
While the composition of the present invention has been set forth in what I believe to be a practical and preferred embodiment, I recognize that other variations are possible. Accordingly, the scope of the invention should be determined not by the embodiment presented, but by the appended claims and their legal equivalents.
